EDITOR’S LETTER
“The art life is a great life.” - David Lynch
Art is freedom, and it is vital; no matter the medium, art breathes like a lung.
We are truly spoilt for choice: writing poetry, playing an instrument, making films with friends, dancing, photography, painting, sewing…so many different avenues to explore with only one lifetime to chase after them all. Now, being a couple of years post-grad, I’ve noticed that most people want to make things or pursue a creative venture, but often abandon the ambition that ignited the passion altogether.
You don’t need discipline as an artist; you need devotion. Treat it as a ritual…how do you treat yourself when no one is watching? Mere talent alone does not guarantee a higher form of success; creativity rewards those with the highest self-respect. Devoción, our sophomore issue, is a love letter to our unwavering commitment to art, highlighting old and new friends alike, critiquing what puts the arts at risk, and the unapologetic nature that our generation carries. No matter what life throws our way, we remain hungry to keep creating, to keep exploring who we are through what we believe to be the highest form of self-expression.
When art becomes an act of devotion, it’s a way of engaging with something greater than ourselves. Start today, as tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.
I present to you, the sophomore issue of 2LATE, Devoción.
