Why do we create? 

If we are honest with ourselves and answer that question without fear or hesitation, our purpose takes on an entirely different meaning. It can be uncomfortable to admit, but sometimes our creative process can be drawn from the parts we are not necessarily most fond of.

If nobody was looking, what would your work be about?

The Evanescent Issue embarks on this journey of unveiling our innermost selves. Fashion is a catalyst to showcase who we are, and what inspires us. Blush Magazine continues to offer a platform that promotes our talents and celebrates our individuality. Now what remains is how we move forward. How do we, as creatives, intertwine our passions to present storytelling through art?

I take inspiration from everything that surrounds me. Every interaction, every experience, every waking moment I have spent truly living and absorbing the world around me—whether good or bad—has shaped me into the person I am today. I think it’s safe to say that fashion truly saved my life.

I grew up constantly worrying about the future, uncertainty weighing me down. There was something that always terrified me about the unknown. I preferred to stay within my comfort zone, where every outcome of my decisions could be predicted. However, as I entered my last year at the Fashion Institute of Technology, this self-deprecating environment left me feeling unchallenged, unstimulated, and ultimately, unsatisfied. I began a period of self-reflection and took the necessary step out of familiarity and into the unexpected. 

I am the first Hispanic Editor-in-Chief in Blush’s 11-year history. It is a harsh reality, but this only further motivates me to continue reaching milestones that I didn’t even know were possible. I want to continue sharing my story through any means possible.

The Evanescent Issue is far from a fleeting moment. It is an unforgettable culmination of our gift to create…it is truly one of a kind. Thank you to everyone who made this possible, this was such an exciting journey!

Here’s to our future, and facing uncertainty head-on, cementing our purpose and legacies along the way.
